The Castillo is one of our favorite places to explore and learn more about the history of CDMX. It has excellent views and is located within walking distance of the wedding events and most hotels. It is located on top of a hill so bring your walking shoes! Tickets can be bought online in advance or at the entrance.
The Zocalo is Mexico City's main plaza and is built over the ancient ruins of Tenochtitlan. It contains the Cathedral of Mexico City, built in 1573, as well as the National Palace and the ruins of Templo Mayor. We recommend taking a 20 minute Uber to Palacio de Bellas Artes and walking 5 blocks to the square. It can be crowded on the weekends! We recommend visiting during the day.
Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo's childhood home, is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Coyoacan which can take an hour to get to due to the notorious CDMX traffic. Tickets must be booked well in advance as they frequently sell out. The museum features many of her famous paintings! Whenever we visit, we make sure to duck into the Mercado de Coyoacan for some trinkets and stroll to the Plaza de Coyoacan a few blocks away.
This market takes place every Saturday in the quaint neighborhood of San Angel. You will find beautiful handmade jewelry, art, and clothes. Uber can take up to an hour due to the winding cobblestone streets, so plan in advance!
The Basilica is a major pilgrimage destination located on the Hill of Tepeyac where the Virgin Mary first appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531. While the main church features the original Manta with the symbol of Our Lady of Guadalupe, there are also many beautiful chapels on the hill to explore! As a warning, the drive from Condesa can last from 30 minutes up to an hour.
